R6 or R1 Shock Swap DIY Kit
R6-SWAP-DIY
A DIY kit containing everything you need to perform the shock swap with your own 99-02 R6 or 07-08 R1 core. This will include a correctly sized spring rated for your weight, a threaded preload adjuster, a spring shim, 12mm to 10mm bushings for the bottom eye of the shock, and two stainless steel bushings for the sides of the bottom of the shock to take up the difference in size of the bottom of the R6 shock vs the width of the OEM shock. You will need to supply your own shock core, and be capable of disassembly of the shock / removing the old spring, and fitting the new parts to your shock core.

This is a direct bolt up modification for model years 14-16. In 17, KTM changed the exhaust, and the exhaust interferes with the nitrogen reservoir on the R6 and R1 shocks. You can still fit the Yamaha shock to your 390 with newer model years, but you have to change the exhaust. If you fit the Tyga Header (part EXPT-0003) you can then run any 14-16 RC390 exhaust system, or run either of the two Tyga dual undertail exhaust systems.

Note: KTM changed the exhaust after the initial release of the bike. If your bike has a stock right side exit exhaust, you will need to fit a decat / midpipe to allow room for the nitrogen reserve on the shock. Otherwise that should be all you need to modify to fit the Yamaha shock to your 390.

R6 Shock Swap Side Bushings
R6-SWAP-BUSH1
This is JUST two thin stainless steel bushings for the side of the bottom of the shock. The R6 shock width is ~1.5mm narrower than the OEM shock, which then requires two bushings on the side to them take up this missing width. The bushings have been turned on a lathe here at Formula390 from billet stainless steel bar stock, with a 10mm clearance hole on the ID, and a width for the two washers to take up this missing space so your R6 shock once fitted is not then loose on the bottom bolt which mates the shock to the swingarm.

NOTE: The R1 shock needs different side play bushings which need to be 0.103" wide. I can make this special order, but it might be easier, and cheaper, to make them yourself with a stack of washers. Feel free to contact me however if you need help with this.

R6 Shock Swap Reduction Bushings
R6-SWAP-BUSH2
These are the 12mm to 10mm reduction bushing necessary to fit bottom shock mount for the R6 shock to the RC390 Frame. The bushing are PTFE-lined bronze bearings with steel shell and have a slit running along the length of the bearing that allows you to slip fit them into the bottom mount of the R6 shock. A width of 30mm is necessary, so comes with two 15mm wide bushings for total 30mm.

Note: The 07-08 R1 shock bottom mount is already 10mm, so you don't require reduction bushings to fit the R1 shock on the RC. You DO however need to grind off the small risers on the side of the swingarm mount location to clear the shocks lower adjuster. This isn't necessary for the 99-02 R6 shock. It's a minor cosmetic change to allow fitment.

Front Springs - 0.90kg
SPRINGS-0.90
For 2015-2021 - Front Springs for your bike are a necessity after you sort out the rear shock. These are RaceTech springs and are available in spring weights from 0.8 to 1.2. If you don't know what size spring you need, send us your weight in and out of gear when you place your order so we can size the springs for your weight correctly.

NOTE: To disassemble the fork lowers, a "Pin Wrench" is a required specialty tool. We offer them for sale for those who may not have one, as a convenience to owners who will be doing the suspension upgrade themselves. The other specialty tool needed is a propane torch, available at any hardware store, which is used to break the Loctite (Red which needs to hit 500F / 250C to release) holding the fork legs lower cap in pace as well.

So far, KTM has not changed the front forks so these springs will work for ALL model years (2014+) for the RC390.

Steering Damper Kit
DAMPER-KIT
For 2015-2021 - Racers and serious Street Riders asked, and we've answered! We are now able to offer a Steering Damper Kit for your RC390 to fit your budget and requirements.

The Damper Kit works with the Tyga Triple Top. The supported part numbers are: TYLY-1073, TYLY-1073(p), and TYLY-0132. It does NOT work with the stock triple top, other aftermarket triples, or the Tyga TYLY-1273 trip. The damper kit is CNC manufactured to key into the triple perfectly! This is now our prefered method of the kit, and works as if it were designed for the damper from the start!

The damper iteself is a rotary damper, with 25 clicks of adjustment which is available to adjust while riding even. The high speed circuit will absorb the high energy hits and dampen out tank slappers and sudden jolts to the steering. There are 3 fully adjustable circuits in all. The damper mounts to the top of the Tyga triple clamp. The torque arm connects to a frame mount which safely and firmly clamps onto the frame and holds the pin firmly with no flex in the pin even with the damper set to it's highest setting. We've TRIED to get our mount to flex. It's a VERY rigid setup we know folks are going to love! The damper hardware kit frame mounts between the fuel tank and the headstock. There is a small nub on the front of the top rail clamp, which can be filed down to get the pin in the right location based on the welds of your frame. Some very blobby / ugly welds can otherwise prevent the damper from being able to move forward on the frame, so that's why this nub is there if needed to help set the pin location in relation to the damper arm. The Damper Kits also meet the need for racers who's clubs require dampers to be mounted, or those who just wish to settle down that front end for those who ride hard and desire a little extra stability... or an edge over the competition.
